Basically the term Sakura originates from Japan meaning “a flowering cherry tree”.  It was believed that many of  the cherry blossoms in Vancouver originates Japan. February 11 to 27 marks this years  Halifax Canada’s Winter Games. Amateur athletes and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world will definitely flocked Halifax to witness the excitement of Canada’s largest multi‐sport competition. The game is open for all amateur and young athletes that represents each province of Canada. It is held every two years, alternating between summer  games and winter games.

The first Canada Games was held in Quebec City during 1967 as part of Canada’s centennial celebration. A total of 1,800 young athletes from different provinces paved their way to compete in different sports category. This event aims to motivate and develop Canada’s young athletes. This in return opens doors of opportunity for the athletes to a more prestigious events like Olympics and International competitions.

Two years ago, the province of Prince Edward Island  hosted Canada Summer games, this year the much awaited celebration will be sponsored by the modern port city of Halifax.
